CRUISE LOGS |
Much to the amusement of my friends I spend many hours
prior to going on a cruise planning the route, working out timings and reading
about what we may see on the way, and what we wont see because time has altered
the scenery from that seen by boaters in the heydays of the canals. Once on the
cruise, I then keep a log of what actually transpires. On our return I then
spend time comparing the two. Now with my website up and running, I also produce
a digest of what transpired. My excuse is that I am just a canalaholic!!
If you would like more details of times of passage for instance, please feel free to e.mail me
2000 This years main cruise will be for a fortnight from the 9th June. We will be starting from the Water Travel base at Autherley Junction On the Shropshire Union. We will be cruising down to Sharpness on the Staffs & Worcs. the Severn and the Gloucester & Sharpness, and then returning to Birmingham via the Worcester and Birmingham canal. When we get there we will then spend what time is left exploring as much of the BCN that we haven't previously visited as possible. At the least this will be the Wyrley & Essington canal. Hopefully the weather and our energy will encourage us to do much more.
Our autumn cruise will not be determined until we know where Osprey will be at the time.
1999 Main cruise this year was a combination of the Four Counties Ring, the Llangollen canal and to end an excursion down the southern reaches of the Staffs & Worcs. canal, all this from our summer moorings at Otherton on the Staffs & Worcs. A total of some 225 miles and 183 locks taking 105 hours of cruising. CLICK HERE TO VIEW
The autumn cruise took us from our winter
moorings at Blue Lias on the Grand Union near Napton junction to the termini of
the Ashby canal just past Snareston and the Coventry canal in the refurbished
basin in the city center. 122 miles and a lazy 14 locks over 48 hours. CLICK
